“Metamorphosis” is a multidisciplinary art project that includes photo exhibition, performance and site specific light installation.

Сoncept: This photo series use symbolism to represent: fragile human consciousness influenced by mass media, hypocrisy of the modern society and an average human, who is forced by the system to spend a precious lifetime either on basic survival needs or excessive consumption.

Black and white colours are used to emphasize the edge between good and evil, that humanity is balancing on. Bodies in bandages symbolize sick mankind, weakened by prejudices and fears and vulnerable to manipulations. Information is one of the most dangerous weapons now. Like a cosmetic surgeon can change physical appearence of a person, those who control mass media can change the perception of how reality appears to us and create the illussion of freedom and choice.

Artist’s bio: Olga Volodina is a Russian-born photo artist currently residing in Bangkok. Back in the day she started her professional career as a fashion art photographer in Moscow. Olga is the author of several social and art photo projects. Her works were featured on TV, in print media and exhibited in art galleries. She continues to work on her projects in Thailand. Her works are always very personal and sincere they intend to evoke an emotional connection in the viewer. She sees photography as an exploration of how the camera translates her feelings, thoughts and attitudes. A human is always a main source of inspiration for Olga. Her controversial inner world catalyzes the conveying a message within a single frame, leading to strong compositions and thoughtful lighting decisions.

“ในทุกวันของเรา เราก็จะได้พบกับผู้คนมากมาย ทั้งที่อยู่บนถนนเดียวกัน หมู่บ้าน ชุมชน ที่ทำงาน ร่วมอำเภอ ร่วมจังหวัด รวมถึงประเทศและ โลกใบเดียวกัน

คือไม่ว่าจะเป็นเพียงแค่การเดินสวนทางกัน หรือร่วมทางเดียวกัน หรือมองเห็นกันอยู่แต่ระยะทางไกลก็แล้วแต่ วันนึงของทุกคนล้วนผ่านไปเหมือนกันทุกวัน ตัวเราเองก็เช่นกัน

ในช่วงปีที่ผ่านมา เราได้มีโอกาสทำงาน Project หนึ่ง ที่กระบวนสร้างงานนั้นจะต้องใช้การสังเกตมาก และต้องเก็บภาพแล้วถ่ายทอดภาพของผู้คนที่จำนวนมากเหล่านั้นออกมาให้เป็นผลงานภาพที่เป็นลายเส้น

พอหลังจากที่งานเสร็จ เราเกิดไม่สามารถหยุดตัวเองให้มองผู้คนที่อยู่รอบๆตัวเราได้เลย และการมองนี่เองทำให้เราเริ่มเห็น คนที่เราพบเจอในทุกๆวันของเรา บ่อยครั้งที่ภาพของพวกเขาเหล่านั้นยังติดอยู่ในความทรงจำของเราเอง

ซึ่งร้านทำผมเป็นสถานที่เดียวที่เราได้มีโอกาสที่จะนั่งมองตัวเองอยู่หน้ากระจกบานใหญ่ๆเป็นระยะเวลานาน

มันนานพอจนเริ่มที่จะเห็นว่าตัวเราเองเป็นอย่างไร ร้านทำผมจึงถูกเลือกให้เป็นที่ๆจะแสดงภาพของผู้คนที่เราพบเห็นในแต่ละวัน ผู้คนที่ต่างก็มีโลกเป็นของตัวเอง…ถึงแม้ว่าเราจะอยู่บนโลกใบเดียวกันก็ตาม”

BONDAX at Live

Bondax is an electronic music duo consisting of English musicians Adam Kaye (born 1 April 1994) and George Townsend (born 17 September 1993). The group gained prominence primarily as a result of BBC Radio, initially through BBC Introducing Lancashire before receiving BBC Radio 1 airtime from the a range of DJs including Nick Grimshaw and Annie Mac. Bondax’s sound has often been described as genre-transcending; Moses Wiener of Dazed details the band’s sound as “the aural equivalent of sipping an ice-cold Pimms on the balcony of your council estate flat.

In 2012, Bondax started their own record label, Just Us Recordings. The first release on the label was a track by fellow producer Karma Kid entitled “It’s Always”.

The duo performed at a number of festivals across Europe, including Bestival, Creamfields and Beacons.

These images were taken at nighttime overlooking 404 Wythe Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York.

I lived in a four-story walkup on a corner with a Brazilian restaurant on the ground floor.

No one was ever aware of me hanging out of my windows while taking these pictures, except one time when a cop caught me looking down at him through my lens. I had to go down and reassure him I was no danger to him, and making sure that he was no danger to me.

“Art Changes the World พลังศิลป์เปลี่ยนโลก”

ไพโรจน์ พิเชฐเมธากุล (ป๊อก) เป็นศิลปินไทยที่วาดภาพคนไร้บ้านที่นิวยอร์กกว่า 300 คน เป็นเวลามากกว่า 6 ปี จนได้รับการยอมรับจาก New Museum นิวยอร์ก ทั้งจัดซื้อผลงาน และจัดแสดงผลงานเดี่ยวให้ การแสดงงานศิลปะในเมืองไทยครั้งนี้ ไพโรจน์อยากจุดประกายให้ทุกคนมาร่วมกันใช้พลังศิลป์เปลี่ยนโลก เพื่อมอบรายได้หลังหักค่าใช้จ่ายมอบให้เด็กกำพร้ามูลนิธิเด็กโสสะแห่งประเทศไทย ในพระบรมราชินูปถัมภ์

ไพโรจน์ พิเชฐเมธากุล ศิลปินไทยที่ถูกจับตามากที่สุดในนิวยอร์กขณะนี้ เขาเริ่มเป็นที่รู้จักจากผลงานในโครงการ “ม้วนกระดาษแห่งความหวัง” (Positive Scroll) ซึ่งจัดแสดงที่ The New Museum แห่งเมืองนิวยอร์กในปี 2014 ช่วงเวลาหลายปีในการทำงานโครงการนี้ ศิลปินหอบม้วนกระดาษและสีตระเวนวาดภาพคนไร้บ้าน ชายพเนจร และคนตกงานเร่ร่อนอย่างมุ่งมั่น ในสังคมอเมริกันซึ่งแต่ละคนวุ่นวายกับกิจกรรมของตัวเอง ผู้คนเหล่านี้กลายเป็นคนชายขอบที่ถูกลืม แต่สำหรับไพโรจน์การพูดคุยกับพวกเขามีความสำคัญมาก เรื่องราวในชีวิตที่เล่าจากปากของคนไร้บ้าน ทำให้ศิลปินเข้าใจนายแบบของเขาอย่างถ่องแท้ก่อนจะลงมือวาดภาพ ม้วนภาพแห่งความหวังจึงเหมือนกับรายงานข่าวถึงชีวิตคนนิรนามในสังคม เป็นภาพวาดบันทึกเหตุการณ์จากคนและสถานที่จริง กล่าวได้ว่า ภาพวาดของไพโรจน์เป็นภาพตามความหมายของขนบศิลปะเรียลลิสม์ (Realism) อย่างแท้จริง หากมิใช่ภาพเหมือนจริงที่ตาเห็น แต่เป็นภาพบอกเล่าความจริงของชีวิต

ไพโรจน์สร้างงานศิลปะด้วยวิธีการที่ง่าย ตรง และลุ่มลึกโดยมีรากทางวัฒนธรรมของศิลปินเอเชีย เขาวาดภาพคนลงบนกระดาษที่ต่อกันเป็นแผ่นยาวคล้ายกับม้วนภาพ (Scroll Painting) ของจิตรกรตะวันออกโบราณ ภาพวาดผู้คนต่อเนื่องกันไปของไพโรจน์มีนัยยะถึงเรื่องราวที่ยังไม่จบ เหมือนชีวิตของคนไร้บ้านที่ต้องเดินต่อไป ภาพวาดที่ซ่อนอยู่ในม้วนกระดาษของศิลปินเผยให้เห็นถึงชะตากรรม และความหวังของชีวิตคนจำนวนหนึ่ง ภาพใบหน้าของชายชราที่ไพโรจน์วาดเป็นภาพที่จับตาผู้ชมอย่างยิ่ง ขนาดที่ถูกขยายให้ใหญ่กว่าจริงหลายเท่าทำให้ใบหน้านั้นอยู่ใกล้ผู้ชมในระยะประชิด เขาวาดริ้วรอยบนใบหน้าชายชราด้วยรอยฝีแปรงแรงๆ ภาพชายที่ทอดสายตาออกไปไกลมีใบหน้านิ่งราวกับไร้ความรู้สึกถูกวาดด้วยสีฟ้าอมเทาอย่างเย็นชา ภาพชายชราอีกคนหนึ่งเพ่งมองออกมายังผู้ชม สายตาคู่นั้นเหมือนเชื้อเชิญให้สำรวจชีวิตตรงหน้า น่าสนใจว่า ไพโรจน์มีแรงจูงใจที่จะวาดภาพคนในลำดับล่างสุดของสังคม เมื่อตัวศิลปินเองก็เป็นคนต่างถิ่นในสหรัฐอเมริกา ทำให้เขาเห็นถึงเนื้อแท้ของความเป็นมนุษย์ และต้องการแสดงความรู้สึกเอื้ออาทรต่อเพื่อนมนุษย์ด้วยงานศิลปะ ณ จุดเริ่มต้นของโครงการนี้ เขาจึงตระเวนวาดภาพเพื่อมอบเป็นของขวัญให้แก่คนไร้บ้าน ขณะเดียวกัน การวาดภาพบนที่สาธารณะของเขาก็เป็นวิธีเรียกร้องให้คนในสังคมหันมองชีวิตคนนิรนามเหล่านี้บ้าง เมื่อทบทวนเป้าหมายได้ชัดเจนแล้ว ไพโรจน์จึงออกวาดภาพคนไร้บ้านตามสถานที่ต่างๆอย่างจริงจังมาตลอด 6 ปี

เมื่อไพโรจน์กลับประเทศไทยชั่วคราว ปรากฏการณ์ทางศิลปะอย่างหนึ่งของเมืองนิวยอร์กก็หายไปด้วย ผู้คนในนิวยอร์กที่มีความรู้สึกร่วมกับกิจกรรมของศิลปินไทยเริ่มถามหาเขา ระยะเวลา 3 เดือนนี้ ไพโรจน์ พิเชฐเมธากุล ยังออกตระเวนพูดคุยและวาดภาพคนไร้บ้านตามสถานที่ต่างๆในกรุงเทพฯ เช่นเดียวกับที่เคยปฏิบัติ และภาพจำนวนมากยังถูกมอบเป็นของขวัญแก่นายแบบ ความมุ่งมั่นที่จะใช้งานศิลปะของเขาปลุกกระแสสังคม ให้ผู้คนหันมาสนใจซึ่งกันและกันได้รับการตอบสนองในบ้านเกิด นิทรรศการศิลปะของไพโรจน์ที่จัดครั้งนี้ก็เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการรณรงค์เพื่อเปลี่ยนแปลงโลก โดยคัดสรรภาพวาดจำนวน 10 ชิ้นจากผลงานชุดท้ายสุดของไพโรจน์ ผู้จัดคาดหวังว่า เป้าหมายอันท้าทายนี้จะได้การตอบรับที่ดี และมุ่งหวังว่าประสบการณ์ในบ้านเกิดของตัวเองครั้งนี้จะเป็นพลัง และแรงส่งสำคัญให้ศิลปินผู้นี้ก้าวไปถึงฝันที่เขาตั้งใจ

เคนจิ โยชิดะ เป็นศิลปินญี่ปุ่นใน โครงการศิลปินพำนัก ของภาควิชาทัศนศิลป์ คณะศิลปกรรมศาสตร์ในปีการศึกษานี้ เขาพยายามค้นหาความเป็นไปได้ในบทสนทนาและการแปลระหว่างวัฒนธรรมไทยและญี่ปุ่น ความท้าทายที่เกิดขึ้นสำหรับคนที่ฟังไม่เข้าใจพูดภาษานั้นไม่ได้ ทำให้นิทรรศการนี้เป็นการสะท้อนผ่านวิถีการทดลองแปลประสบการณ์ที่เขาได้พบเจอมา

โยชิดะพยายามเชื่อมโยงมุมมองด้วยวิธีการแปลความหมายในรูปแบบของการแปลซ้อนทับการแปล การแปลความแบบผิดๆ รวมไปถึงภาวะของการอยู่ในสถานการณ์ที่สื่อสารไม่ได้ เพื่อพัฒนาผลงานศิลปะโครงการนี้ อย่างไรก็ตาม สิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นนี้ทำให้เห็นว่า ไม่มีการแปลความหมายใดที่จะสมบูรณ์แบบ โยชิดะจึงใช้การแปลความที่คลาดเคลื่อนเพื่อเป็นสื่อในการสร้างผลงานศิลปะของเขา

Permanent Spraycation by Tones One – EDK

TONES ONE exports to Bangkok a new updated version of his last project in Asia titled “Permanent Spraycation*. This solo show presents a travel diary – combining paintings, photos and videos- recounting the artistic peregrinations of the Swiss/Khmer graffiti writer in the most crazy and absurd corners of South Asia, from Delhi, Varanasi, Kolkata to Bangkok and Phnom Penh. With just a sketchbook, a camera and plenty of stupendous ideas in mind, the Swiss/Khmer artist has traveled in the Indian subcontinent where he got stunned by an explosion of various colors and textures. With an admittedly limited equipment but a wide range of pigments of vibrant colors, TONES ONE walked the streets of Indian mega-cities in search of differently textured walls to paint great murals and meet the locals. His journey continued across Southeast Asia all the way down to Cambodia, his Motherland, where incredible encounters and stories have continued to support the realization of his energetic and vivid artwork combining lettering and graphic illustration.

Presented exclusively in Bangkok, in the form of a graffiti/travel diary, “Permanent Spraycation” retraces 6 months of travels and anecdotes of local graffiti milieu between 2014 and early 2015. With this exhibition, TONES ONE shows us another way to travel and apprehend graffiti.

The exhibition will take place at GOJA Gallery Café, Bangkok from March 28th to April 19th.
